Thanks to all of our clients

Thanks to all who fished with Captain Birch this year.  It was a fabulous year with many fish caught.  The 28-35 slot limit for stripers made the creels a bit lighter, but we managed to get take-home fish for just about every party.  Captain Birch is primping the boat for next year which will be… Read more »

Fishy Charter Weekend

It was a busy weekend on the Reel Steal. After a Saturday doing maintenance work, Captain Birch had 2 charters Sunday. Both charters had kids, and both wanted the kids to catch porgies. Captain Birch and mate, Alden, came through for them, putting more than 30 of the delicious creatures in the box for each… Read more »

Lots of fish but the slot is hard to get

Had the Kaphar group out today.  2 dads and 4 wonderful sons.  Caught a whole bunch of stripers, but only one fish in the new 28-35 inch slot requirement.  Also stopped and found a few porgies, so maybe the waters are warming up a bit.  Everyone had a great time on the Reel Steal, as… Read more »

June 7

Had a fun half day trip Friday, 6/7. The beginning was very slow with no drift at all, but as soon as the tide started running, the fish became active. Caught a bunch of fluke, 3/1 shorts to keepers, a couple of dogfish and the requisite sea robin. Also got a few really big and… Read more »

Calendar for 2019 is up and has changed

The calendar for 2019 is changing:1. Reel Steal will not be starting charters until the month of June.    The last few years have shown that the big bass do not show up until June, and are usually gone from our area at the end of September, hence, striper charters will not be booked after September… Read more »

Lock and Load for end of September

Had a great charter Saturday, Sept 29 with Bob and Rob W and their family and friends.  Started out trolling Sugar Reef and getting multiple hits, with many fish being undersized, but we managed a couple of nice keeper stripers.  We then went to Old Reef and trolled for bout 15 minutes.  I didn’t mark… Read more »

Good Day Tuesday 8/8

Took out regular client Jeff C and his sons Andrew and Joseph today.  It was barely windy and hot as blazes, but we had a great day of fishing as usual on the Reel Steal.  Andrew got a nice big bass, Joseph caught the biggest porgy and Dad, Jeff, caught a big bluefish among the… Read more »

Sunday August 5

Sunday’s trip with Dan S and his group was moved from Saturday for obvious reasons, and it turned out to be a beautiful day both weather and fishing-wise.  Started at the South side of fisher’s Island where we landed that 46 pounder on Friday, but all we caught were undersized fish.  I then made the… Read more »
